The story of the first days will take you in to early '80 of the 20th century, the time when the first pilgrims started to come to these hills to seek for God. Humac – the shrine od St. Anthony

Just a short ride away from Medjugorje there is the most visited shrine of st. Anthony in Herzegovina. It is well known that st. Anthony helps finding the lost items and lost faith. Many come here to contemplate the life of this saint and to pray before his reliquies.

The franciscan monastery beside the church acommodates the oldest museum in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the oldest artifact in the museum wich dates back to 14 000 BC.

Široki Brijeg – the shrine of Our Lady and the Franciscan Martyrs

Before the begning of the Apparitions of Our Lady in Medjugorje Široki brijeg was the most visited shrine of Our Lady in Herzegovina. There is a long tradition amoung the local people to come and to ask for the intersesion of Mary and the Franciscan Martyrs who were killed by the communists in front of the monastery. The franciscans did not want to renounce their faith to save their lifes. This act of faith has been giving strenght to the local people and pilgrims since 1945.

Visit the 100 year old church of the Assumption of Our Lady, the franciscan monastery and the cave nearby where the bodies of the franciscans were burned and buried.

Tihaljina

Tihaljina

The parish of Tihaljina has been visited by many pilgrims from all around the world for the last 20 years. Pilgrims started coming here when the Medjugorje parish priest from 1981 became the parish priest of Tihaljina. They were coming to hear his testemony and then they descovered a beautiful Statue of Our Lady in the local church.

Not just the beauty of this statue but also the story of how it came to this place atracts people to come. The story of the statue is telling us about the strong faith and persistence of the parishioners. Father Jozo was transfered to onother parish many years ago but the pilgrims stil visit the church of st. Elijah and pray before the statue of Our lady.
